Overview of Bai Tu Long National Park

Geographical Location

Bai Tu Long National Park is located in Van Don Island District, Quang Ninh Province, within the Bai Tu Long Bay complex, approximately 200 kilometers east of Hanoi. Established in 2001, the park covers a total area of more than 15,700 hectares, encompassing both island forests and marine waters.

The park consists of over 80 large and small islands, with Ba Mun Island standing out as the most significant. This island preserves one of the rare remaining tracts of primary forest within the bay. Bai Tu Long National Park is also one of the few national parks in Vietnam that simultaneously conserves both terrestrial and marine ecosystems.

Best Time to Visit

The ideal time to explore Bai Tu Long National Park is from March to May and from September to November. During these periods, the weather is mild with minimal rainfall, calm seas, and excellent conditions for outdoor activities such as trekking, kayaking, and wildlife observation.

Summer (June–August) offers bright sunshine but may be affected by sudden rain or tropical storms. Meanwhile, winter brings cooler temperatures and a peaceful atmosphere, making it an appealing season for travelers who appreciate the quiet, contemplative charm of northern Vietnam.

How to Get There

From Hanoi, travelers can reach this National Park by private car or coach via the Hanoi – Hai Phong – Ha Long – Van Don expressway, with a travel time of approximately 3.5 to 4 hours. Alternatively, Van Don International Airport offers a convenient option for those wishing to shorten their journey.

From the mainland, the journey continues by boat from ports such as Cai Rong Port (Van Don) or Hon Gai Port, providing access to the paradise area. Most guided tours include transportation services, making the trip smooth, comfortable, and hassle-free for visitors.
